The New Piaget Polo Skeleton Ceramic

The New Piaget Polo Skeleton Ceramic

The Piaget Polo holds significant prestige for the brand, dating back to its launch in 1979 as a luxurious solid gold watch featuring an integrated bracelet and signature gadroons. While it has since evolved, today’s audience recognizes the Piaget Polo as a contemporary, sleek timepiece. Introduced in 2016, the Polo collection embodies Piaget’s take on a luxury sports watch, offering time-and-date and chronograph models. The Polo Skeleton stands out for its ultra-thin profile and intricate mechanics. This year, Piaget takes it further with the Piaget Polo Skeleton Ceramic—a bold, sporty, and masculine update.

Evolution of the Polo Collection

Over the years, the Polo collection has transitioned from its opulent 1980s aesthetic to a more casual and versatile design. The 2016 introduction of the Piaget Polo S marked a shift towards stainless steel cases and bracelets, offering a sportier look reminiscent of the Emperador line. This modern iteration brought new movements and complications tailored for daily wear, including chronographs, perpetual calendars, slim designs, quick-release bracelets, and high-end jewelry editions.

Known for its expertise in ultra-thin watchmaking and open-worked movements, Piaget unveiled the Polo Skeleton in 2021. Combining bold aesthetics with mechanical sophistication, the Polo Skeleton was initially offered in steel with blue or grey dials, followed by a gold version. Now, the ceramic edition adds a new dimension to this collection.

Design and Build

The Piaget Polo Skeleton Ceramic retains its iconic cushion-shaped case and raised bezel, measuring 42mm in diameter. Despite the ceramic material, it features classic finishing touches such as a horizontally brushed bezel, brushed flanks, and polished bevels. To ensure robustness and water resistance, Piaget reimagined the watch’s construction.

A black DLC-coated titanium container forms the central protective core for the movement, while black ceramic is used for the bezel, crown, and lateral modules. This combination of materials enhances the watch’s sporty and bold personality. The ceramic case has a thickness of 7.5mm, slightly more than the steel version’s 6.5mm, but it remains exceptionally slim and comfortable. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

The dial and movement are fully blackened, with open-worked bridges and a jet-black inner flange. Raised hour markers, blue Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes, and a luminous Piaget logo add a dynamic touch. The blue highlights extend to the micro-rotor, visible through the skeletonized movement.

Movement and Technical Details

The ceramic model features the same calibre 1200S1 as the steel edition. This skeletonized version of the calibre 1200P, one of the thinnest automatic movements, measures just 2.4mm thick. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of 44 hours. The blackened bridges and mainplate are adorned with a satin-brushed sunburst finish and polished bevels, visible from both sides of the case.

Versatility and Pricing
